MISSION

·          What do we expect students to learn?
Steele students will master content and information literacy standards using life skills to become productive and empathetic citizens.

·          How will we know that students have learned?
We will assess all students on an ongoing basis and assess formally each quarter to determine individual needs and make necessary instructional adjustments.

·          How will we respond to students who are not learning?
We will re-teach, and group students flexibly and by ability. We will use building and district resources.

VISION

·          If we did an excellent job, what would the results look like? Students will be performing at or above grade level and will be moving toward personal best. They will be motivated learners. Students will enjoy learning, be engaged, on task, independent, and will be efficient and effective users of information.

(To infuse the “Circle of Courage” philosophy into our school’s culture. The core values of this model are belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.)

·          What are the essential “best practices” we must learn and use to do an excellent job? 
We will use differentiated instruction and expectations. We will utilize our volunteers and other resources in effective ways. We will model behaviors we expect students to learn. We will implement research based classroom management strategies. We will focus on instruction driven by assessment. We will practice professional collaboration.

·          How will this help us move the school toward the vision we have for our school?
These practices will allow each child the opportunity to reach their potential. They will provide a stable learning environment. They will lead us to sharing, synthesizing, motivating, inspiring, debriefing, supporting, and team building.

·          How do we need to behave if we are going to become the kind of school we said we seek to become?
*We will be responsible, positive, inclusive, professional and energetic in pursuit of knowledge. We will model life-long learning.

*As staff members we will demonstrate the belief that all children can learn. We will model the behaviors of our vision statement. We will provide a safe learning environment where all students are comfortable in asking questions.
