From the Principal's Desk Principal: Larry Howard Ed.D.
We are pleased that you are taking time to become acquainted with our wonderful school via our website. If you have the opportunity, we invite you to visit our school to learn more about us and get involved with our fantastic students, other caring parents and dedicated staff. We encourage parent involvement in our school with a goal of making everyone think of Scott as an extension of their family. Our PTA has been recognized as a National PTA Parent Involvement School of Excellence. Last year our wonderful volunteers and PTA contributed over 5000 hours with our children. We are proud of our faculty of caring, dedicated master teachers who specialize in fostering “transitional parent involvement" from home to school in the primary grades and “parent / teacher teams" in our intermediate grades. Our goal is to maximize student growth and academic accomplishments through outstanding instruction and a strong home / school connection. Successful, high achieving schools and families work to complement each other. Vera Scott Elementary is recognized throughout the state for our excellent services to children. Scott’s library has earned designation as a “Colorado High Performance Power Library" for the last two years. The library is the heart of literacy education at Scott. Scott has earned a rating of excellent from the Colorado Department of Education for academic and overall program level and received the John Irwin School of Excellence Award as one of the top schools in the state. This year we were recognized as a Colorado High Performing School for continued academic growth over the last three years. However, the essential attribute that distinguishes Scott from other schools is our strong sense of community. Any visitor to our school will note the number of parent volunteers and how they support our teachers to reinforce learning for our students. You will see smiles on faces, notice the great behavior of our students and see a learning community at work. You will quickly realize that you are in a special, child-centered place, for all are valued at Scott.
Sincerely, Larry Howard, Ed. D. Principal
