BIRDIE BASH 

Congratulations to the three Sabin teams that compete in the 6th annual “Birdie Bash” held at Holmes Middle School on Saturday, March 17th. 

Team 1:  Nathan Reistad and Brandon Sidney (7th Grade Team)

Team 2:  Aaron Bitner and Ryan Darras (8 Grade Team)

Team 3:  Rishsefid Mahalleh and Skyler Gough (8th Grade Team)

All three teams represented Sabin well.  Special congratulations go to Nathan Reistad and Brandon Sidney for winning the 7th Grade Division.

Sabin Vocal Music Department:

Several Sabin vocalists participated in the Pikes Peak Area Solo/Ensemble Festival at Wasson High School on Saturday, March 3rd.  Each of the students did an outstanding job and represented Sabin very well.

Soloists receiving a Division II (Excellent) rating were:  Ashley Crance, Samantha Luick, and Brian Warttman.

Soloists receiving a Division I (Superior) rating  were:  Khadijah Baker, Allie Duensing, Shelby Gillette, Ashley Golston, Dominic Goodrich, Natasha Grimm, Edie Laird, Andrea Marcolongo, Maria Sargent, Marina Scholtz, and Paige Shuman.

The Sabin Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Chamber Choir participated in the Pikes Peak Area Large Group Festival on April 17th, at Mitchell High School.  Choirs are rated by 3 judges on a scale of I (Superior) to V (Unprepared).  The Chamber Choir earned a Division I rating from each of 3 judges, with one of the judges giving the group a perfect score!  This is truly an outstanding achievement – congratulations to all!

The vocal music department will present its final concert of the year on Thursday, May 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sabin cafeteria.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SABIN’S OWN  CODY SMITH

Cody took part, along with 250 other outstanding middle school students from across he United States and Canada, in an extraordinary leadership conference in Washington, D.C. from March 17—23, 2007.  Themed “The Legacy of American Leadership”, the Junior National Young Leaders Conference introduces young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while helping them develop their own leadership skills. Way to go Cody!!

Come to the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration Place at the Citadel mall between May 5th and May 12th to view their work.

Solar Car Competition

Two teams from Sabin will represent our school in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s statewide Solar Car Challenge in Littleton, Colorado on May 12th.  You may remember that Sabin took both first and second place last year in the design portion of this competition, our first year competing.

Our team members this year are:  Cameron Schlumpf, Summer Fahrenbrink, Jake Webb, Jessica Gomez, Samantha Murray, Holly Baker, Nathan Westfall, and Spencer Brecevic.  Good luck Saints!

The following students received a superior rating (1) at the District 11 Solo and Ensemble Festival on March 3 at Wasson HS: 8th Grade:  Evan Silloway, trombone; Spencer Brecevic, bassoon.  7th Grade:  Allie Duensing, flute; Lindsay Smith, flute; Andrea Marcolongo, trombone. 6th Grade:  A.J. Dembiczak, percussion; Josh Salazar, alto sax; and Courtney McClain, clarinet.  The following student received an ‘excellent’ rating (2):  7th grader, Natasha Grimm, clarinet, received an ‘excellent’ rating (2) and 6th grader, Samantha Turner, flute, received a ‘good’ (3) rating for her first solo contest performance.  Congratulations to all of these outstanding young musicians!

Colorado Youth Citizenship Awards (CYCA)

Each year students from all Colorado middle schools compete for recognition and scholarships as outstanding citizens.  Nominees are selected and judged for their leadership abilities and person character.  Academic achievements along with community service are also vital components.  Each middle school selects five finalists to compete for school and district winners.

Mighty Mathematicians!

The Sabin MathCounts team placed 5th at the city competition last weekend.  The team consisted of Michael Owens, Billy Riegel, Kaitlyn Cardillo, and Monica Padeway.  Billy Riegel also qualified to compete at the state competition in March.
