Science Fair Project Timeline

The following dates are just around the corner for your child's Science Fair projects.  Please help insure your child's success by reminding them of these dates and talking to them about their projects.

Please note that some teachers may alter the timeline for their students to better suit their needs.  Please check with your science teacher.

Oct. 16 – Oct. 25

Information given to students; parent signature required.

Topic needs to be chosen.  Begin personal journal (diary).

Oct. 30

Title/Subject of project due (typed).

bullet

Purpose of your project due (typed).

Hypothesis due (typed).

Nov. 17

Advanced Science Only

bulletResearch due! 2-page minimum (double spaced, 12 pt. font)  background information due (typed); use at least 3 sources. At least 1 must be a book.  Use your own words!
Dec. 4
bulletMaterials and Procedure due (typed)
Dec. 21
bulletEnd of 2nd Quarter
Dec. 11 – Jan. 15
bulletRun experiment, record data, take/develop photos or make drawings.
bulletAll data, graphs, photos or drawings should be completed and placed on backboard at home.
bulletConclusion, Analysis and Application are added to the backboard
Jan. 16-19
bullet  Final project is due, mounted on three free-sided freestanding display boards.  Personal journal is due.  Binder updated with a copy of all the backboard parts inserted.
bulletPresent project to class (Backboard, journal, and binder.
Jan. 25
bulletSchool-wide science fair at 6:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Feb. 3 Optional:  Any student desiring to enter the regional Science Fair competition must have all forms and fees turned in to his/her teacher by this date.

***Any student who does not meet the above deadlines will need to call a parent/guardian during class, explain the situation, and make an appointment to come in after school to receive partial credit for late assignment(s). 

If you are ill on a due date, the item is due the next day that you are in class.

Your project must be an experiment, not a demonstration.  Do not buy a science kit!

You must be able to collect data that you measure.  You will need to be able to graph your data.  It cannot be an opinion poll.

Any experiment with any animal must have a parent permission slip, teacher approval, and special district approval before starting.  Advance planning is critical.

Nothing living (including plants, bacterial growth plates, etc.) may be taken to the district competition.  Photos only.
