Thousands of students throughout the country and many foreign countries competed Dec. 5 in the 49th Knowledge Master Open academic competition, which was offered on elementary, middle and high school levels of knowledge.

A team of 36 TAG (talented, accelerated, gifted) students in Gifted Resource Teacher Carolyn Smutko’s class at Sabin Middle School faced their computers and 200 tough questions to vie for top scores based on accuracy and speed. Out of 2,000 possible points, the Sabin team earned a score of 1,263. This score ranked Sabin third in the state out of the 27 Colorado middle schools that participated. Nationally, Sabin is 253rd out of 711 middle schools across the United States.
