2006-2007 Student Accomplishments


  • Orchestra students: 11 superior ratings and 4 excellent ratings, 7th and 8th grade groups both received a rating of excellent, and we have the only Electric String Project in the district

  • Choir students: 12 superior ratings and 3 excellent ratings, chamber choir received an excellent rating from each of 3 judges

  • Band students: received a superior rating at the Wasson Jazz festival, excellent rating + 4 outstanding musician awards at the Jenkins Jazz Jamboree, 8 superior, 1 excellent, and 1 good rating at the Solo and Ensemble Festival, one of only two middle schools in Colorado Springs participating at the Cavalcade of Music

  • 3 students won a medal at the regional science Olympiad competition

  • At the regional science fair: 4 students won the Discover Science Award, one student won 2nd place in the 8th grade physical science class, one student won 2nd place in the 8th grade health and behavioral science class, one student won 3rd place in the 8th grade health and behavioral science class, we had a 1st, 3rd, and 4th place winner in the junior high group projects class, and a winner of the National Society of Professional Engineers Award.

  • 2 students placed 2nd in the engineering science and technology design contest

  • 8 kids placed 1st in the district bridge building contest; 8 more finished 3rd.

  • 11 students finished 2nd in the district boat regatta; 10 more finished 3rd.

  • We had an 11th place winner at the local Math Counts competition—he also qualified to compete at the state level.  The Math Counts team placed 5th in the local competition.

  • Our girls’ basketball team won the City Championship.

  • 84 6th graders and 34 7th graders earned computer literacy awards, and all 6th graders can type 20 words per minute.
