Grades are one measure of the degree of knowledge and skills gained
by the student in specific courses. Each teacher will notify students of
his/her grading policy in writing. Grades usually reflect the student's
ability, effort and achievement. Grades and averages earned at a
previous school by a student who transfers during a semester are
averaged with the student's grades earned at Sabin and averaged as part
of the semester grade on the student's transcript. Grades will be
reported at the end of each quarter and are part of the student's
permanent record. They are used as an indication of the student's
academic progress to that point. Students carry home grades during the
first three quarters. The district mails final grades at the end of the
year. In addition four progress reports will be prepared and sent home
with your child at each mid-quarter. These eight dates are publicized in
the newsletter and on the
calendar. Please contact a counselor if no progress report comes
home with your child on these eight dates. These reports are how
teachers indicate that a student may be failing or not working up to
ability and indicate a parent/teacher conference may be needed. The most
common comments affecting student grades are too many absences and work
not turned in. Please develop a plan with your child to prevent this
problem. Students earning high grades are often rewarded with honor
cards, special programs, assemblies, certificates, and prizes.
The Honor Roll is published at the end of each quarter. The Honor Roll
is based on the following criteria: Principal’s Honors - 4.0, High Honors
- 3.5-3.9, and Honors - 3.0-3.49.
An Individual Literacy
Plan (ILP) will be written for students reading below grade level
as determined by district and state assessments. Each semester,
students on Individual Literacy Plans will be given intense instruction
in reading and will be reassessed. The plan or program will
continue until the pupil is reading at or above grade level.
Parent conferences for those students on ILP's will be held in the fall
and spring.
