Sabin Choral

The primary goal of the vocal music program at Sabin Middle School is to encourage each student to attain his/her maximum potential, using their given talent in a variety of performance and musical areas.  Students will learn the fundamentals of good choral singing, as well as elements of theory, ear training, sight-reading, and musical terminology.  Perhaps most importantly, students will develop an appreciation for the art of excellence in vocal production, both in rehearsal and performance settings.

There will be a mandatory performance in each academic quarter.  Concerts are our "final exam:, and are used to assess learning that has occurred in class for that marking period.  Concert attire for the first three concerts (as well as Large Group Festival) will be black on the bottom and white on top.  Please wear black (or dark) dress shoes.  Attire for the final concert in May will be jeans and t-shirts.  More information about that will follow at a later date.

Students in Chamber Choir will have additional performance opportunities.  District 11 middle schools select an Honor Choir each year.  Interested students may audition by tape.  Tapes must be submitted by September 10th.  The actual Honor Choir performance is in November.  We had 22 students accepted.

Chamber Choir members may also elect to be involved in Solo/Ensemble Festival.  Students may prepare a solo or small group performance, which is evaluated and rated by a judge.  This is an awesome learning experience for those that choose to be involved.  The Solo/Ensemble Festival date is Saturday, March 5th, at Wasson High School.

Members of the 7th and 8th Grade Chamber Choir will represent Sabin Middle School at the Large Group Festival in the spring.  The choir will prepare 3 selections to be evaluated by a panel of judges, and then proceed to a sight-reading room, where we are presented with a piece we have never seen before (and expected to sing it with some degree of excellence).  It is our responsibility to prepare for this event throughout the course of the year by learning sight-reading skills, so that we perform to the best of our ability in this event!
