Sabin Middle School National Junior Honor Society members “adopted” the 22 students from Mark Twain Elementary who lost their homes in the Castle West fire. Each NJHS member put together boxes and tubs of clothing, books, games, and school supplies for their child. In addition, many of these Mark Twain families were presented with gift cards to help with household purchases. I am so proud of these middle school young people who responded to the need swiftly and with such generosity. One member spent hours making a quilt for a little boy he’s never met. Another showed up with a bicycle and roller blades. Many went shopping over a very cold, snowy weekend, or going door to door collecting donations. They are such kindhearted, good kids, who gave of their time and money to help other kids in need. Carolyn Smutko NJHS advisor Sabin Middle School |
