Sabin Middle School Recycles!

The students at Sabin Middle School have decided that it is time for us to make the world a better place!  As a school, students at Sabin are coming together to collect and recycle plastic bottles, cans and paper.  When announced that a teacher was going to start collecting and recycling water bottles, the students stepped up to the challenge!  Within the first week, the students had already collected four 32 gallon bags of plastic bottles.  The following week, students were bringing in their own trash bags full of bottles from their homes.  They have collected a wide array of plastic from water bottles and milk containers to cottage cheese and yogurt containers.

One student was so fired up about the program, she proposed a recycling club be started at Sabin, and “Team Green” was formed!  The club is aiming to get all schools in District 11 to go green, especially in the cafeteria.  They would like to see all Styrofoam trays either be recycled or petition the school district to have them banned from cafeterias.  These students are really thinking global!!!  Eventually they would like to see all schools in Colorado go green and recycle; they even have a slogan, “Save the water bottles, save the world.”

If you would like to help out, please contact Megan Green at greenmk@d11.org.  We are looking to raise money to buy more trash cans for recycling purposes as well as metal trash grabber tools.  We are planning on using the grabbers to help clean up the surrounding parks.
