Palmer Night School offers courses in an alternative setting in which a student can complete classes and fulfill graduation requirements.

The Scheduling Process

Students will schedule for classes before each upcoming block with the administrative offices at Palmer Nigh School

Registration

  • Call to set up an appointment for an interview (328-5040)

  • Once accepted fill out the enrollment papers.

  • Students will receive orientation to Palmer Night School the first night of each block


Report Cards

Report cards will be handed out to students one week after the completed block.  Report cards are given out to students except for the last  one which is mailed.  progress reports for all students will be given in all classes after the fourth week of classes.

Unsatisfactory Progress

Students who earn an F grade in two classes will be put on academic probation and will not be allowed to come to school the following block.  The student will be asked to sit out for one block and go through the interview process.  If allowed to come back the student is put on academic contract.

Field Trips

Some classes will have field trips as part of the curriculum.  permission slips must be signed and returned no later than the Thursday before the field trip.  Any student not going on the field trip will will still be expected to be at school during normal class time or will be counted absent.

Homework

Time will be given in class for homework whenever possible.  However, there will be occasions when homework will need to be completed on the students' own time.  Studying for tests, quizzes, etc. is always the students' responsibility to accomplish on his/her own time.

Electronics

Electronic devices are not allowed in class.  This includes CD players and tape players.  If a student has a pager or cell phone, it must be kept out of sight, and in the case of pagers, on vibrate.  Any disruption to class because of a pager or cell phone will result in confiscation of that item.

Check in/Check out at Main Office

Students are asked to check in when arriving late and check out if they become sick and need to leave the campus.  Checking out through the office requires:
1.  The student to come to the office and speak to the office personnel regarding leaving campus.
2.  Receive permission to leave campus from the office personnel, his/her teacher and a parent or guardian.  Some exceptions to the parent guardian release are made for students over 18 years of age.

Childcare

Childcare is not provided at Night School.  This facility is not childproof so please make sure you have back up babysitters.

Weather

When school is cancelled for District #11 that cancellation also applies to Night School.  If conditions worsen in the late afternoon, please call 328-5040 to see if classes are shortened or cancelled.

Student Conduct

Students must comply with the District 11 Student Conduct and Discipline Code Handbook.  All issues will be handled according to school district policy.

Transportation

Students should make primary and back-up arrangements for transportation to and from school.  It is the student's duty to advise family and friends not to be on campus before 8:50 p.m.

Campus Rules

The Palmer Night School campus is open for students to leave during dinner break.
Palmer High School will not be held liable for any student who is not on District 11 school grounds.
Visitors are not allowed on campus unless permission is received from the principal.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible to be on time to his/her class.
During 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period students are only allowed to have a 5 minute tardy.
The policy for tardiness is as follows:
2nd tardy - Student will receive warning from teacher
3rd Tardy - Teacher will call parent
4th Tardy - Student will receive after school detention
5th Tardy - Student will be referred to Principal

Students are responsible for returning all books and materials belonging to Palmer High School.  When returning books and materials they must be turned in to the Night School office or classroom teacher.

Period 1

3:30 - 4:50

Period 2 4:55- 6:15
Dinner 6:15 - 6:50
Period 3 6:50 - 8:10
Period 4 8:15 - 9:30

After School Detention

 Students may be assigned detention after school.  Students assigned after school detention will report immediately after 4th period to the commons area to serve detention.  detention will last no longer than thirty minutes.  A student who fails to show up for detention will be given a second after school detention.  If a student fails to show up for the second time, that student will be referred to the principal and a parent conference will be held.

Attendance

  • Each student is given 5 absences per nine-week block.
  • Absences are not excused or unexcused. An absence is counted as an absence.
  • Students will be counseled at 3 absences concerning attendance and grades.
  • Students can be dropped at 5 absences per the principal's discretion.
  • Schedule changes will only be made during the first week of each block.  All other changes could result in an "F" drop.
  • All students must be registered for full time classes.
  • Students with 2 "F"s in one block will be asked to sit out the next block before they can re-apply for enrollment.
  • To report an absence call 328-5023 after 4:30 P.M.
  • Calls are made home each night to students who are not in attendance.
  • Students leaving school early or coming in late need to sign in or out in the Night School Office.

Dual Students

Dual students are taken on a space available basis.  Grades and attendance from students' day school will be considered in a transition to night school.
