Bailamos Con Fuego

(Rutz) Bailamos con Fuego is a dance group that learns, practices, and performs the traditional folk dances of Mexico, as well as some other Latin American Dances. We are a diverse group of students who enjoy the culture of Mexico, and are becoming well-known in the area for our excellent talent and skills. Our main performance of the year is the Cinco de Mayo assembly at Palmer when all staff and students are invited to come and watch the dances and musical performance.

Breakfast Club

(Selman) The Breakfast club is devoted to prayer and Bible study, as well as creating a stronger Christian fellowship here at Palmer, Basically, it’s a club about Jesus. It will meet Thursday mornings from 7:15 -7:40 in room 213. The name of the club doesn’t actually have anything to do with the eighties movie. We thought “The Breakfast Club” is fitting because it convenes before school and, after all , scripture is food for believers

Chemistry Club

(S. Smith) Pursue your interest in chemistry topics like forensic science and nanotechnology. In this club we will do experiments, demos, listen to guest speakers , and take field trips, Join us as we explore how chemistry plays a role in everyday events.

Digital Genesis

(McComb) A new innovative club focused on the design, testing, and development of video games. We have a lot of fun researching game development and testing video games for the purpose of creating a greater experience for club members. We meet on Thursdays after school in the Mac-Lab room 153 located in the Tech-building for about an hour. Visit our new website.

Double Exposures

(Tucker) This organization gives students an opportunity to join others interested in photography as an art form.  Members work on community focused projects as well as individual growth and expression.  Activities include supporting school and community sponsored events.  Members are responsible for outside photographic shoots for local businesses and establishments.  Booths and club representation can also be established for school dances and activities.  Members are also encouraged to participate in exhibits and competitions through out the region.  In addition members will have the opportunity to investigate and explore unique photographic techniques not usually done in the classroom and explore the darkroom.

EPYCS

(Rachwitz) EPYCS stands for El Pomar Youth in Community Service Program. It is the largest student run philanthropic organization in the country. It is students raising money and finding worthwhile non-profit organizations throughout the community to give the money to. El Pomar matches our fundraising of $500 with an additional $7500 so the impact we can make is large. The students involved in the project are the board of directors for Palmer; they interview and disperse the money. The good that can be done is immense. Joining expands your horizons as well as those in the community.

Experimental Art

(Lee-Estrada) This club is interested in creating artwork that will add to the aesthetic qualities of the existing building. We are currently creating a mural for the hallway leading into the art studio space. This mural was designed and is being painted by members of the club. We have an expected due date of March 3rd, that should coincide with the opening of the new facilities at Palmer. After the mural is completed we will be focusing on creating T-shirt designs, and improving the art rooms.

French Club

(Poucel) French Club offers an opportunity for students to practice their French outside of class and delve deeper into French culture in an exciting and entertaining manner. We meet every other Tuesday (in English) from 3:15-4:00 to plan community service opportunities and events to host. We also meet every other Wednesday (exclusively in French) from 3:15-4:00 to speak French, play games to improve language skills and watch French movies. Our annual activities include a holiday soiree, a play, a film festival, a two-day retreat to a Swiss chalet near Buena Vista, and summer home-stay visits in France.

Gay/ Straight Alliance

(Schulzki)The Gay Straight Alliance was established to foster dialogue between various groups on the question of gender and tolerance. The purpose of the club is to hear and recognize disparate viewpoints and to promote tolerance toward all people, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or ideology. It seeks to create a safe environment for all students. As a club, students perform community service for a broad range of charities, hold discussions on various social and political issues, and promote tolerance in the school and the community. We meet Thursdays during lunch.

German Club

(McNeil) The German Club is always welcoming new members. We meet the first Wednesday of each month in Room 218 to discuss business such as our candy sales, purchases, etc. Sometimes we watch a video or just discuss a topic in German. Our plan is to have one additional activity a month, We went to Uwe’s German Restaurant for an authentic meal in December. Willkommen!

Intellectuals Unlimited

(Crosson) Intellectuals Unlimited meets and talks about the “big questions” in life. We get into esoteric discussions about things ranging from musical styles to the Big Bang theory. This is a totally student run club. Students determine the agendas for each meeting, schedule guest speakers and sometimes we watch movies. The last one was a Monty Python film. Meets in Room 156 in the Tech. Building every Tuesday afternoon at 3:15pm.

International Diversity Club

(Garratt) International Diversity Club is a group of students wo promote tolerance across all kinds of diverse groups. Kids can come to talk about all kids of issues, ranging from international news events to issues evoked by the foreign films. It is open to all students, and food is always served, There are two major events -- International Education Week in November and the Talent Show in the Spring.

Masque and Sandal

(Constant) Masque and Sandal is composed of students who enjoy working in theatre, as actors and those who are interested in technical aspects of theatre production. Students are involved in 3 plays a year and are often called upon for technical assistance by other organizations.

MESA

(Hampson)MESA is an organization designed to encourage students to continue to study Math, Science and Engineering in college. We attend local and state engineering contests. Enrollment is open to any student.

Mud Throwers

(Stahl) Palmer Mud Throwers is a pottery club whose main mission is to have fun while we learn to make some functional art.  Members will make pottery projects such as bowls, mugs, pots, decorative whistles, custom clay stamps.  We will be working on the spinning wheels as well as building things by hand.  By the end of the year our members will know more than just the basics and have some really cool stuff to show for their efforts.  Most of these projects we will keep for ourselves but some of our wares will be offered for sale.  The proceeds from our pottery sales will be used to sustain the club members supply costs once their initial fee of $10 is exhausted.  We are also looking at selling some of out pottery to raise money for a local charity.

Music and Recording

(McComb) The Music and Recording Club provides students with the hardware and software tools necessary to record audio. Currently students are using both an E-Mu 0404 and two Digidesign M-Box 2 interfaces on Mac and Windows platforms. Several MXL microphones, and direct boxes are available. Students use Garageband, Cubase LE, and Pro Tools LE for recording. Other software available includes: Proteus VX, SFX Machine, AmpliTube, Peak Express 5, WaveLab, Sonar LE, Analog Factory SE, BFD Lite, Live Lite 6, Reason, Specton Lite, timewARP 2600, Trash Lite, Xpand!, ProSessions, and others. Club members work jointly on recording projects, and/or pursue individual recording projects.

National Honor Society

(Bach) The National Honor Society is one of the largest organizations at Palmer, comprised of Juniors and Senior who achieve outstanding academic performance. With a passion for service and a responsibility to the surrounding communities, we work together-occasionally in cooperation with other clubs- in service projects. Additional goals of the Society include promoting strong leadership and further developing character. The NHS is nationally recognized by colleges and universities, and membership is a privilege. With reasonable requirements and commitments, concise monthly meetings, and national recognition, it pays off to be a member of the National Honor Society.

Numen magazine

(Wolken) Numen magazine is Palmer High School ’s literary, art, and photography showcase publication.  Numen offers students and teachers an opportunity to publish their artistic work, including work created both in and out of school.  Numen editors are all students.  They select the pieces that will be published in the magazine based on artistic merit.  Numen meets every Wednesday after school on the 2nd floor of the library.  We always welcome new members! PeaceJam

(Urban/ Koselak) PeaceJam students become apprentices in peacemaking. We study the life, spirit, skills and wisdom of Nobel Peace Laureates and put them into practice. We discuss local and global issues related to peace, the PeaceJam Global Call to Action, develop and participate in service projects and attend a PeaceJam conference in the Spring. Meetings are Tuesday lunch in room 220.

Science Olympiad

(MacFarlane, Bach) We compete in a competition in Spring with all other schools in the region, and in the last several years we have taken 1st place at the regional competition. The competition consists of many “events”, in which teams of two build things like bridges, rockets, boats, cars or planes, answer questions that are usually interesting, do experiments and things like that. This year we are going to take some field trips to look at things like the electron microscope at CC, and some other sciencey stuff. We have a diverse membership, with the usual science nerds, as always, but also athletes, musicians, weirdoes, general students, and just anyone who likes science or building things. We are very laid back and are just a club for people who want to make friends or play around with science or engineering in a competitive and team-like atmosphere. Meets in room 156 during lunches.

Schools 4 Schools

(Gilliam/ Urban) Schools for Schools is a student led club working to raise awareness, support and fundraise to rebuild schools in the war-torn area of northern Uganda. The effort emerges from the documentary film Invisible Children.

Silent Terrors

(Ferguson-Mayer) If you are interested in learning sign language and getting to know some of the deaf/hard-of-hearing students at Palmer this is the club for you! Silent Terrors is a club serving to bridge the gap between hearing students and deaf/hard-of-hearing students at Palmer High School. Our main goal is leading Palmer High School to greater understanding and awareness of deafness. This is accomplished through education of American Sign Language, deaf history, deaf culture, and most importantly through interaction with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in our school and community. Silent Terrors incorporates this learning through use of fun and interesting games and activities, and outings to various functions and events for the deaf.

Student Crime Stoppers

(Johnson) Terror Squad (Johnson, Moore) The Terror Squad is the Palmer Dance Team. We bring excitement and style through the art of dance. We also enjoy promoting Palmer PRIDE and school spirit. The Terror Squad puts on numerous performances during football games, basketball games, assembles, etc. If you are interested in fulfilling your dance ambitions, then attend our informational meeting coming up soon. U Got Served

(L. Keller) U-Got-Served is a community service organization founded by Palmer IB Students. Our goal is to get our members to become active contributors to society, by organizing and running community service projects. This organization not only aids IB students in completing the IB community service requirement but offers non-IB students the opportunity to participate in community service opportunities as well. All Palmer students are welcome to join.

Video

(Poese) Video Club is everything to do with movies. Acting, directing, editing and producing can be learned and experienced by both novice and expert alike. Creating a movie can be challenging, but watching a movie you created is a great reward. In video club everyone is accepted, movies are made, and friendships are formed.

Young Bagelians

(MacFarlane) The Young bagelians is a club devoted to the discussion and analysis of political theories and systems. There is an emphasis on enjoying bagels and distributing resources.
