Admissions
Middle Years Program
The first step in the admissions process for the Middle Years program is to attend our application information night. (Refer to the Events and Deadlines page for this year’s date.) During that evening we introduce key components, requirements, and application process and deadlines to gain admission to the MYP at Palmer (grade 9). Click on the link to download a copy of the application that may then be completed and mailed in.
Important note: Students already enrolled in the Middle Years program at North Middle School are automatically rolled over into the MYP at Palmer, subject to North’s recommendation. Such students do NOT need to attend the fall application information night.
The following criteria apply to students seeking admission into grade 9 of the MYP:
· Standardized test scores at the 85th percentile or above in reading, writing (language use), and math. Many tests are acceptable, including the ITBS, DALT, Terra Nova, Stanford Nine, among others.
· Scores of Advanced or Proficient on the most recent CSAP tests in reading, writing, and math (students in Colorado public schools).
· Strong recommendations from current counselor, math, and English teachers.
· Strong middle school/junior high school transcript with A’s and B’s (mostly A’s) in core subjects. A year of foreign language and algebra in 8th grade are desirable but not required.
Admission into the Palmer IB programs in other years occurs on a space available basis. Because of the rigor of the program, admission after 9th grade is uncommon and reserved for candidates with extraordinary qualifications. Students transferring from other IB programs will be admitted whenever possible. Contact Carolyn Derr for 10th grade admissions or Steve Kern for 11th grade admissions. (Admission into 12th grade IB is only possible for 11th graders enrolled in compatible IB Diploma programs in other schools.)
Diploma Program
Students who have successfully completed the MYP are eligible to apply to the Diploma program through a collaborative application process during the second semester of the sophomore year.
