Kim Bowers comes to Mitchell from the heart of Denver, where she was born and raised.  She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2001 with a Bachelors in Music Education with an instrumental emphasis.  While at UNC, she won the Rocky Mountain Concerto Competition in 2000, as well as the 2001 Southard Convocation Competition on Horn.  Kim taught middle school band, orchestra and choir in Idaho Springs and in Westminster, CO.  She is currently a member of the Capitol Brass Quintet and Colorado Wind Ensemble of Denver.  In her spare time, Kim tends to the goal posts for her hockey team in Westminster.  In 2008, she will receive her Masters degree in Technology in Education from Lesley College.

Beginning Band

     This class is designed to teach beginning instrumentalists on wind, brass, percussion, and string instruments. Also, advanced students desiring to learn second instruments may enroll. Students in this class will learn basic musicianship in preparation for participation in band or orchestra. Only standard band or orchestral instruments are offered.

Jazz Band

    Only those students who demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of their instruments will be considered for inclusion in this group. Basic instrumentation includes saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar, and drum set. The jazz band performs at jazz festivals, assemblies, concerts, and community events.

Orchestra

    Orchestra is a class in which various styles of music are studied and performed. Emphasis is placed on the improvement of ensemble playing. This orchestra performs at school concerts and community events.

Symphonic Band

     This band participates in various music festivals and contests. Performances are also held for school and community events throughout the school year.

Wind Ensemble

     This band is an audition only group. Very much like the symphonic band, this band also performs at various contests as well as school and community events.

The parents, students and staff of Mitchell High School believe that all students will learn in our safe, academically rigorous environment, which is driven by high expectations and standards-based instruction. Our Staff will work with parents and community members in developing students who are responsible, literate and caring citizens.
