   Mitchell's Peer Counselors provide services to students who need additional support. Peer Counselors are required to maintain a log and document each visit with another student. Each Peer Counselor will receive proper training to include confidentiality, threat to harm self or others, abuse, and knowing when to seek additional assistance when dealing with a student.

   Peer Counselors will also provide tutoring services every period of the day. Two Peer Counselors will be assigned to the Counseling Office, in lieu of student assistants. They will be required to tutor in at least 1-2 core subject areas.

   Student 2 Student is an extension of our Peer Counseling Program. The purpose is to help student transition more effectively. Mitchell was chosen to implement this program from the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and the District #11 Superintendent's office. Mitchell is an Interactive Counseling Center (ICC). Mitchell has a high transition population, which Student 2 Student has been trained to address.

This year were planning on doing "Drive Smart" Campaign, which is a six week program learning about the does and don'ts of driving . We plan to go to Denver for the yearly Peer Counseling Training, go and present to the board again, do the "Alive to Strive" Program right before prom, meet every other week to plan fund raisers, activities, etc, deliver a video of what are students are doing to the S2S leaders, continue to tutor students who need help and many things like that.

 

The parents, students and staff of Mitchell High School believe that all students will learn in our safe, academically rigorous environment, which is driven by high expectations and standards-based instruction. Our Staff will work with parents and community members in developing students who are responsible, literate and caring citizens.
