On a postcard-perfect morning at Garden of the Gods, the torch passing through was only the beginning. Kristin Matta Pattee's torch run was over, ending at the entrance to Colorado Springs' signature park. As the flame bobbed away in the hands of another torch bearer, about 100 onlookers surrounded Pattee and extended a post-torch moment. Some just wanted to touch the extinguished torch. Others wanted to be close to it. Then someone suggested "America the Beautiful," and -- led by students holding a Mitchell High School Language Clubs banner -- they sang it, complete with accordion accompaniment, as the song's inspiration -- Pikes Peak -- loomed not far away. Like the setting, the moment was picture-perfect.
