What is Air-Force JROTC?
AFJROTC is an elective course at MHS (Mitchell High School) open to all students. It is a blend of science, social science, technical course work, training and ceremonies, and the elements of leadership. This course is divided into two areas; Aerospace Science and Leadership Education. The Aerospace Science (AS) part provides an introduction to the historical, scientific and technical aspects of aerospace. The Leadership Education (LE) portion provides experiences to develop discipline, responsibility, communication skills and citizenship.
What is the goal of JROTC?
AFJROTC acquaints students with the history of aviation and today's aerospace age. It helps develop better informed citizens and promotes an understanding of traits that will help students become more productive after graduation in their chosen field. This course strengthens character, builds leadership skills, and offers a unique environment adding a dimension to the overall educational process.
What do I need to qualify?
You must be a US citizen, be a full-time student at MHS, have good moral character, and have a desire to be successful. Grades 9-12 are welcome!
To Enroll
To be eligible to enroll you must be at least 14 years old, a U.S. citizen and physically fit. Talk with your friends, your parents and your adviser. Enroll in Air Force Junior ROTC.

Air Force Junior ROTC offers you important benefits for your future. Complete a three-year Aerospace Science program in Air Force Junior ROTC and:
- Be eligible to enter the Air Force two pay grades higher than other enlistees.
- Your uniforms, insignia and textbooks are FREE.
- AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC will prepare you to work in an expanding technological world--in the Air Force or as a civilian.
- Plus, each high school hosting an Air Force Junior ROTC unit can:
- Nominate qualified candidates for an Air Force Academy appointment.
- Award an Air Force ROTC Four-Year Engineering Scholarship to a qualified cadet.
Activities
Being an Air Force Junior ROTC cadet is not all laboratory and classroom work. You can be a guest at dances and military ball, here at Mitchell High School, or take part in athletic events as part of our color guard or drill team, and much more. You'll also participate in a variety of activities and field trips planned by our aerospace science instructors, such as our annual curriculum-in-action trips to Air Force Base's, the Space and Rocket Center's and an aircraft orientation flight.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Credit: One; Gym, History, Science, or elective credit toward graduation for each course completed.
Costs: $30 All uniforms, textbooks, etc., are provided to students -(this provides for about $300 worth of items)* Note that if payment is a problem, financial assistance can be provided. * Also note that if any item are missing they will have to be paid for.
Obligation: None. There is NO military obligation whatsoever.
