Booster Club Minutes
November 5,
2007
The meeting was called to
order at 6:09 p.m. Those in attendance were: Sandy Burks, Betty Finley, Marcy
Serby, Denice Thanner, Becky Jackson, Angela Morris, Linda Garcia, Lori Van
Arkel, Charlotte Morris, Laura Watts, new members Laurie
Hylle and Sandy DeCarolis, and Brett Williams.
The October minutes were
accepted by Angela Morris and seconded by Linda Garcia. We began with
introductions for the new members. Welcome!
Old Business:
- Thank You Card
- Sandy passed around a thank you card for Emily, Shirley Tompkin’s mother,
who cut ribbon for our Senior Sports buttons.
- Membership Fees
- The two new members and one existing member paid for their memberships.
Booster Club T-shirts were distributed to those who paid.
Sandy will get the cards
from Nancy November 6 and mail them out. One staff member will be removed
from our list because he has not yet paid his membership.
- Teacher luncheon
–The food was in two separate locations, which worked very well. The support
staff and teachers appreciated it (Several e-mails thanking us were sent
around.) The amount food was just about right also. It is good to have the
luncheon on a night when there is a sporting event so we can bring leftovers
to the concession stand.
-
Concessions at Garry
Berry
– By the end of this week Brett should have a report from Dave Eichmann,
with D-11. We will receive approximately 35 to 40% of the profits for each
of the nights we worked.
- Fundraisers
- Gunther Toody’s –
Lori will look at the school calendar
for February and try to pick our next date. She’ll get back with us.
Marcy will find out when the next newsletter deadline is so we can
publicize the fundraiser. (Secretary’s note, the deadline for
the next newsletter is December 7.)
- Money Maker – Will
not happen. It was not approved by D-11.
- Outback Steakhouse
– Angela will contact them.
- Texas Land and
Cattle – Will donate a couple of free meals. After discussion, it was
decided we would have a raffle for those dinners at our Spring Sports
Kickoff Night. Everyone who is a member who purchases a hot dog dinner
will have their name put into a hat for a drawing.
- Senior Sports
Banquet
-
Becky will order
supplies for 250 buttons.
- Angela will write
on ribbons after the 1st of the year.
-
Brett will be asked
to bring a list to the next meeting of seniors who played in a sport in
the last three years. We will
look at how long the list is to determine whether or not we will open
the sports banquet up to all of them or limit it to athletes who have
played 3 years.
- There was a
discussion about whether or not buttons will be made for students not
playing in their senior year.
Treasurer:
Raffle Account $ 361.00
Regular Account $4,844.53
Merchandise:
- Betty made $270 on the
past two Fridays.
- We sold old T-shirts
at cost to Mr. Cutter. We have not yet seen the money
- Betty will not
transport inventory to and from football games next year, so we need to find
someone who will do that for us.
- The lanyards are now
breakaway, which means we can sell them again. We will give the woman who
sewed them all a $50 gift card to Wal-Mart. Sandy will purchase the card and
pick up a thank you card.
New Business:
- Families in Need
– Sandy has purchased three gift cards ($50 each) for Mitchell families in
need for Thanksgiving. We will purchase three more for Christmas. (The
Booster Club does this every year.) Brett already as one family in mind and
will talk to Connie Rogers, our Community Liaison, to decide on the three
families. If anyone has a name of a family
in need, e-mail Brett with that name.
- Children of
Promise – On Saturday,
November 10, Mitchell will host this group that provides free physicals,
sports fees and sports equipment to athletes who are on free and reduced
lunch. Brett needs volunteers to be in the
gym by 7:45 am this Saturday to work 8 to 10 a.m. We will probably be
done early because there are not very many athletes so far.
- Winter Sports
Kickoff – will be Thursday,
November 15. The Booster Club will cook hot dogs and serve with chips, a
cookie and a drink for $3, the same as in the fall.
Boster Club members need to be in the East
Courtyard at 5 p.m. Marcy will bring 2 roasters and signs. We will
serve from 6 to 7 p.m. Those who volunteered are: Becky, Charlotte, Angela,
Marcy, Mike & Sandy Burks, Dee, Betty, Lori, and new members
Laurie Hylle and Sandy DeCarolis. Brett will
start speaking in the cafeteria at 6:30 and parents and students will meet
with their individual coaches at 7 p.m.
- Idea for the
newsletter: If you are a senior who participated in a sport at Mitchell,
are not playing this year but would like to be recognized at our Senior
Sports Banquet submit the following information to Athletic Director,
Brett Williams, by March 15. This could be a 1/3 page tearoff.
- Tax Exempt Number
– When we purchase anything for the school for which we will be reimbursed,
we need to go through Nancy, Brett or Sandy so we don’t pay tax. They have a
copy of the tax exempt form which must be shown at the time of purchase.
The next meeting will be
Monday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marauder Room. The meeting was adjourned
at 7:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marcy Serby
