MHS Athletic Booster Club Minutes

March 3, 2008

The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:05 p.m. Those in attendance were:  Sandy Burks, Marcy Serby, Denice Thanner, Becky Jackson, Deb Thomas, Lori Van Arkel, Charlotte Morris, Angela Morris, Sandy DeCarolis, Joanne Tolbert, Linda Garcia and Brett.

The February minutes were accepted by Joanne Tolbert and seconded by Charlotte Morris.

Athletic Director:

• Year-round Pass for cheer is still being discussed at the District level.
• Spring Sports Kickoff – We had 12 extra pizzas. We broke even on costs then made a little extra money by selling the extra pizzas on Saturday at the Concession Stand. (Pizza will go very well if sold at Concessions.)
• Winter sports are done and spring sports and underway. If a student wants to join a team but cannot afford it, he/she should talk to the coach. There are funds available through the Boosters and other organizations.
• Parent Passes are not available for track, however Brett will bring it up at the District meeting on the 4^th. Next year the District will offer a punch pass that can be used for most sports.
• Senior Sports Night is May 5. More details are listed below the minutes.

Old Business:

• Gunther Toody’s – We made a little over $100 – but students did not put their Marauder period teacher down, so we can’t give away a pizza party
• Raffle License – The 2008 license was given to Brett for filing in the school office. He was requested to return the old license for Denise’s files. Even if Linda’s Games Manager License is still active, Sandy suggested someone else consider also being a Games Manager.

Fundraisers:

• Chili Dinner – Joanne will look at it again next year.

New Business:

• Minutes on the Web – Marcy will confirm with Joan that she received the minutes so the web site can be updated.
• State Wrestlers – Five wrestlers qualified for State, and Kevin Meyer sent an e-mail requesting funds to help pay for their hotel, food, etc. The meet has already happened, and one wrestler took third place. We agreed to provide $75 per wrestler up to a total of $375. Kevin needs to provide us with the names of the wrestlers and receipts of $375 or more.
• School Beautification – Sandy suggested we look at sprucing up the entryway into the gym (where tickets are sold) to make it more inviting. Marcy will contact the head of the art department to see if they are interested in doing something. We have lots of funds and should use some of them. If you have any other ideas, bring them to the next meeting.
• Nominations of New Officers – The deadline to nominate officers for the 2008-09 school year is March 17. You may e-mail your nominations to Sandy Burks at sburks@csu.org. You may nominate yourself if you’d like, and the same person can be nominated for more than one position. (All of the current officers will leave office, as they have no students at Mitchell. We will vote at the April meeting, and the new board will take over in June.

    • Concessions – Joanne Tolbert will talk to her husband about the two of them taking on Concessions (which involves purchasing, stocking and getting volunteers for the Concession Stand. (Dee has decided to step down.)
    • Merchandise – No one has talked to Betty, so we don’t know if she is planning to continue
    • Games Manager – (In addition to Linda Garcia)

We received a check from Larry Cutter for $235 for t-shirts. We also received receipts for the 2006-07 Cheer banquet which we cannot reimburse because they are so old. The ’06-07 books are closed.

Newsletter: We will have basically the same info again this newsletter. Marcy will contact Sheri Metzger for a deadline date.

The next meeting will be Monday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marauder Room. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.

Sports Recognition Discussion

Date –May 5, beginning at 6:30 (to approx. 9:30)

Place – The presentations are in the auditorium and food is in the cafeteria.

Theme – “My Wish For You”

Food – Two vegie trays, 5 meat sandwich trays, M&Ms and peanuts on each table – We need 300 plates, cups, napkins – Margie got prices of vegie trays; Charlotte will purchase M&M’s from Sam’s. Who is purchasing the food?

• Cake – Angela and Joanne will purchase two 1/2 sheet cakes, 1 chocolate and 1 white. If you have nice cake cutters, bring them to the next meeting.
• Punch – Debbie will make orange and blue punch like last year.

Invitations – Becky will handle. Kay will do the calligraphy on the envelopes. Sandy gave Becky the generic cards, students and coaches addresses, and Becky will have the insert invitation printed and give addresses to Kay. Sandy still needs to get additional names of people who need an invitation

Programs – Marcy will print a sample and bring sample paper to the next meeting.

Master of Ceremonies – Ron Jungling

Ramey Award – Brett – If you would like to nominate a deserving Booster Club member, the deadline to get names to Brett is April 7. E-mail him at williba@d11.org. (Note that the past four years it has been received by Denise, PJ, Lori and Dee.)

Van Sant Award – Denice will purchase the bond

Power Point Presentation – Morgan Jackson has agreed to do it. (A picture is shown as the athlete is called up.

Decorations – Balloons are blown up and placed in an arch. Sandy DeCarolis, Margie, Charlotte, Debbie, Becky, Linda will take care of the balloons. We have enough supplies. Debbie is also handling the flowers and poems. We will help her as she needs help. We also talked about other decorations to fit with a “Wish” theme, perhaps a wishing well. Marcy will check to see if we can borrow one from Holy Cross. Bring other décor ideas to the next meeting.

Buttons – Becky is working on them and Angela will print on the ribbons. All pictures need to get to Becky by March 17. We will plan to stay after the next meeting and help her in any way she needs help.

Raffle Merchandise – Becky and Debbie will purchase a TV-VCR Combo, a 19” Color TV and a portable DVD player. We will also have additional raffle merchandise from our closet.
