Booster Club Minutes
December 3,
2007
The meeting was called to
order at 6:14 p.m. Those in attendance were: Sandy Burks, Betty Finley, Marcy
Serby, Denice Thanner, Becky Jackson, Deb Thomas, Angela Morris, Linda Garcia,
Lori Van Arkel, Charlotte Morris, Laura Watts, Laurie Hylle,
Sandy DeCarolis, Joanne Tolbert and Brett Williams.
The November minutes were
accepted by Angela Morris and seconded by Denice Thanner. We began with a
welcome back to Joanne Tolbert, who has been gone for most of the school year.
Now that Joanne is back, she been reinstated as a board member in charge of
membership. If there are any issues with this, Sandy Burks can be contacted to
add to it the agenda of a future meeting.
Old Business:
- Cards
– Sandy passed around 4 thank you cards for the group to sign. Three were
for families that will receive a Wal-mart gift card and one a Thank You card
was for Emily, Shirley Thompkin’s mother, who cut ribbon for our Senior
Sports buttons.
- Concessions at
Garry Barry – We still haven’t
received our funds, but Brett believes it will be approximately $225 per
side per sport (who worked the concession stand during the football season.
- Sports Kickoff
Night – went well overall.
Brett will talk about other ideas before the Spring kickoff.
- Booster
Responsibilities – We
discussed at length the Booster Club responsibilities and awards. Those have
been attached to these minutes. There are still a few questions, which are
listed in red in the “Booster Club Functions and Awards.”
- Fundraisers
- Gunther Toody’s –
Lori will look at the school calendar for February and contact Marcy
with our February date before the end of the week so Marcy can publicize
it in the next newsletter. She will also have flyers for the school.
- Senior Sports
Banquet
- We continued a
discussion about whether or not we will recognize students who did not
play a sport in their senior year but had previously played.
- At our next
meeting we will have a database of students who played sports previous
to their senior year. That way we will be able to see how many students
we are talking about.
- At our January
meeting we will vote on several items related to the Sports Banquet with
very little (if any) discussion since we have discuss these items
several times in the past. Those items are attached to these minutes on
the “Booster Club Functions and
Awards.”

Merchandise:
- Joanne will help Betty
sell on Fridays.
- Laurie Hyall is
selling Michael Garman miniature ornaments for Baseball. She will sell them
on Fridays at the Booster Club table, and the Boosters will receive $5 for
each one sold.
- We have not yet seen
the money for ESP teachers’ merchandise which was given to Larry Cutter.
- Cheer went to Denver
for State Competition and – while they did not place in State – they placed
higher than Doherty and Palmer.
- Dave Eichman is looking
into a year round pass for cheer for next year.
Newsletter:
Sample was distributed. We
will advertise Gunther Toodys Night and $2 off merchandise valued at $10 or
more, as well as the usual newsletter items.
New Business:
- Brett asked the group
for volunteer help selling tickets from 5-8 pm during sporting events in the
gym. His budget has been cut but $5,000. Marcy agreed to call people who
have volunteered to help in other areas besides concessions, because Lori
still needs quite a bit of help with concessions.
- The spring season
starts February 23, so the kickoff will be several days before that.
- The concession stand
was opened for Irving boys’ basketball and will be open again on December
15.
- The winter sports
assembly is December 4. We had 16 student athletes who received 1st
or 2nd team or honorable mention, and Brett will be recognizing
them. Brett was asked if he would also be recognizing athletes who make 1st
and 2nd team academic. He said he would be recognizing them at
the spring assembly.
The next meeting will be
Monday, January 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marauder Room. The meeting was adjourned
at 8:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marcy Serby
