MHS Athletic Booster Club Minutes

April 7, 2008

The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:07 p.m. Those in attendance were:  Margie Reinhard, Sandy Burks, Marcy Serby, Denice Thanner, Becky Jackson, Deb Thomas, Lori Van Arkel, Charlotte Morris, Angela Morris, Sandy DeCarolis, Joanne Tolbert, Douglas Tolbert, Linda Garcia and Brett Williams.

The March minutes were accepted by Angela Morris and seconded by Margie Reinhard.

Old Business:

• Wrestling Receipts - Kevin Meyer has been sent 3 e-mails requesting receipts so we can reimburse him for State meet expenses. He has not yet responded.
• School Beautification – Wendy Foos, the head of the art department, said she would be happy to have her students paint the ticket booth area. We also considered a logo on the inside gym wall, although there is not a lot of room. The weight room has just been redone, and the walls are blank. Brett will research the cost of the fighter plane metal sculpture (up to approximately $500 or a little higher) and will talk to Wendy. We will let them tell us what they want to do. They’ll bring ideas to the next meeting.

• Year-round Pass will now fall under the new punch card. The parent will simply purchase a new card when they need one.
• Our updated minutes and board members are now on the web site.
• Becky will buy the button machine for Senior Sports Recognition buttons for $329.
• Sports Banquet meeting will follow this meeting.

Athletic Director:

• Weight Room – Has just been refurbished with rubber flooring and new equipment. It is now much more appealing and user friendly for girls because there is lots of different equipment, not just free-weights.

Fundraisers:

• Sky Sox – This is a lot of work, and no one appears to be interested at this time.
• Balloon Festival – Angela will get more info about running a booth.

Merchandise:

• We recently made $315 on merchandise, which is excellent this time of year. We would sell it more during basketball and volleyball if we have more volunteers.
• There was a discussion about the fox vs. plane logos and the “cute” fox vs. the “mean” fox. Brett would like to see us lean more toward Billy Mitchell and the plane.

New Business:

• Voting of New Officers – Ballots listing officer’s nominations were distributed and returned to Sandy. New officers will be announced at the May meeting.
  • We still need someone to step forward to be secretary. Please contact Sandy ASAP so we can have a secretary by May 11 (our next meeting).
  • Charlotte Morris agreed to be the second games manager.
  • Betty Finley has agreed to continue with merchandise, and her daughter will help.

We will meet on Wednesday, April 30 at 6 pm in the Marauder Room to finalize the Senior Sports Banquet. The next regular meeting will be Monday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marauder Room. The meeting was adjourned at 7:18 p.m.

Sports Recognition Discussion

Date –May 5, beginning at 6:30 (to approx. 9:30)

Place – The presentations are in the auditorium and food is in the cafeteria.

Theme – “My Wish For You”

Food – Two vegie trays, 5 meat sandwich trays, M&Ms and peanuts on each table – We need 300 plates, cups, napkins – Margie got prices of vegie trays; Charlotte will purchase M&M’s from Sam’s. Who is purchasing the food?

• Cake – Angela and Joanne will purchase two 1/2 sheet cakes, 1 chocolate and 1 white. If you have nice cake cutters, bring them to the next meeting.
• Punch – Debbie will make orange and blue punch like last year.

Invitations – Becky will handle. Kay will do the calligraphy on the envelopes. Sandy gave Becky the generic cards, students and coaches addresses, and Becky will have the insert invitation printed and give addresses to Kay. Sandy still needs to get additional names of people who need an invitation

Programs – Marcy will print a sample and bring sample paper to the next meeting.

Master of Ceremonies – Ron Jungling

Ramey Award – Brett – If you would like to nominate a deserving Booster Club member, the deadline to get names to Brett is April 7. E-mail him at williba@d11.org. (Note that the past four years it has been received by Denise, PJ, Lori and Dee.)

Van Sant Award – Denice will purchase the bond

Power Point Presentation – Morgan Jackson has agreed to do it. (A picture is shown as the athlete is called up.

Decorations – Balloons are blown up and placed in an arch. Sandy DeCarolis, Margie, Charlotte, Debbie, Becky, Linda will take care of the balloons. We have enough supplies. Debbie is also handling the flowers and poems. We will help her as she needs help. We also talked about other decorations to fit with a “Wish” theme, perhaps a wishing well. Marcy will check to see if we can borrow one from Holy Cross. Bring other décor ideas to the next meeting.

Buttons – Becky is working on them and Angela will print on the ribbons. All pictures need to get to Becky by March 17. We will plan to stay after the next meeting and help her in any way she needs help.

Raffle Merchandise – Becky and Debbie will purchase a TV-VCR Combo, a 19” Color TV and a portable DVD player. We will also have additional raffle merchandise from our closet.
