An International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme

The IB PYP curriculum is formulated around five essential elements in education: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action. Through using a standard framework referred to as, "A Programme of Inquiry", each IB PYP school designs units of inquiry that are relevant and meaningful to a child’s education. The framework consists of six organising themes. These organising themes address a body of knowledge which the International Baccalaureate Organisation considers necessary for all students around the world to acquire.

All IB PYP schools throughout the world design their own IB PYP curriculum around the following six organising themes:

The IB PYP curriculum at Midland International is designed to:

	enrich each child’s understanding of the world in which he/she lives;
	develop skills which are essential to language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, technology, art, music, physical education and French;

provide the knowledge and the opportunity for application of a second language;

grant active learning through "Methods of Inquiry" which are essential to the teaching/learning process;

promote/reflect state standards and benchmarks;

allow students to construct meaning through guided inquiry;

and ultimately create students who are well-balanced, lifelong learners.

This balanced program, which includes the acquisition of concepts, knowledge, skills, positive attitudes and actions, sets high expectations and provides students with an academically challenging education, which is in accordance with the Colorado State Standards.
