Katrina's strong winds and heavy rains soon breached the levee system there, and most of the city of New Orleans was flooded.

Many people lost their homes and belongings in the hurricane.

The children of Midland International Elementary School wanted to help.  For several weeks, we gathered backpacks of books and supplies, and collected money for the children who were devastated by the hurricane.

Then, on October 13, 2005 the children of Midland held an assembly where we presented our gifts for the hurting children of the south.

We gave money....

And more money...

And more money!

We also gave backpacks full of books and other supplies...

as well as food.

Mr. Jones helped by taking the money to the bank, which would send the money to the hurricane victims...

and Miss Willis shipped the backpacks to the children.

By caring for hurting children this way, Midland International students and staff showed the I.B. attitudes of empathy, cooperation and  commitment.
