GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS

Inspiration is probably the most well-known graphic organizer software in educational circles.  However, it is not the only one.  There are some online graphic organizer creation and editing sites which are worth exploring, like BubbleUsThe greatest value of these online programs is that they allow people to work collaboratively.

These are visual learning tools that enable users to "graphically visualize their ideas and organize their thinking. These programs are brainstorming tools for both teachers and students."  This page and links herein suggest some ways they can be used in the classroom.

THREE WAYS TO THINK OF  & USE ORGANIZERS

Brainstorming: A problem solving technique where people are encouraged to spontaneously, quickly, and creatively share ideas while one person writes them down, often in the form of a web.

Analyzing: By critically examining details, processes, relationships, or meaning, better understanding is achieved. Teachers and students could use organizational charts, concept maps, or Venn diagrams as part of their analysis.

Sequencing: Ideas or events are prioritized or ordered. Use this to help others understand the relationship of events or the hierarchy of information. This often takes the form of a flow chart or outline.
