COMPUTER-GENERATED ART
SELF-PORTRAITS IN HISTORY USING
MICROSOFT PAINT
Thanks to Mr. Rob
Hazelgrove and the artists of St. Loys Church of England Primary School
Computer Art Club in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom (in the center of
England). They
shared their lessons, examples and ideas. Visit their work at
http://www.st-loys.northants.sch.uk.
Our assignment
was to choose any period of history from your own grade level curriculum
and draw yourself in that setting with Microsoft Paint. 7th Graders
study Ancient Civilizations in the Eastern Hemisphere from Mesopotamia
through the Renaissance. 8th Graders study American History from
Plymouth Rock through Reconstruction. Students were allowed to draw
inspiration from examples at St. Loys and on the web so long as they did
not plagiarize. |

"Children
of the World" Collaboration with Mrs. Dunn's Class in Australia
In
the Fall of 2006 we made a very special connection with Eltham North
Primary School in Victoria, Australia (just outside of Melbourne).
Our teachers,
Mrs. Shanks and
Mrs. Dunn, met online at Think.com and set
about their second collaboration together. (The first was the KoalaWhere!?
project.) More than 70 Mann students sent a brief letter and
a self-portrait made in Paint to Mrs. Dunn's students. In response, the
Australian children made a
Montage
of Art created from the computer art by Mann students and the drawings
created by Eltham North students.
The
Montages can
be found at Eltham North's web site:
http://www.elthamnorthps.vic.edu.au/C3_parentpages/c3.5.art.1.htm.
A
million thanks to Mrs. Dunn for spearheading this and encouraging us
before, during, and after the project! We will be collaborating
again in the Spring of 2007. Stay Tuned!
