City Bus
Displays Art From Madison
Integrating art
with math, science, literature, reading and social studies is always
a priority at Madison Elementary School. The city bus pictured here
is an example of this kind of collaboration.
Madison CIT Linda
Ward and Bemis art teacher Barbara Tellin worked hand-in-hand on a project
integrating library research and technology into a standards-based art
lesson. Students in grades 1-5 learned about Colorado's life zones,
then used their findings to create art centering on what people enjoy
about Colorado. Linda photographed the completed art work, using digital
photography. With the assistance of D-11 Technology Integration Coordinator
Kathy Claybaugh-Norgaard, a collage was made from the art of 15 Madison
Students. Springs Transit applied the art on a bus. The students, their
parents and Madison Principal Marcia Bader attended an unveiling ceremony
at the Fine Arts Center this Summer, where the students were given gift
certificates for art lessons at Bemis and a ride on the bus. Watch for
the a bus around town!
