I Love to Read Program

National Library Week April 13 - 19

Members of the CSHS/Palmer Alumni Association and Palmer students celebrated their 24^th annual “I Love to Read” Program at Madison Elementary School on April 16^th. The Association purchases a book for every child and presents it to them after spending an afternoon reading to the students. Teachers were given a poetry book in appreciation for their service to children. A gift of books was also made to the Madison Library. The event was organized by Marje Swearingen, retired D11 teacher and made successful by twenty volunteers who value our schools and reading.

Teddy Bear Bread

After listening to a story about teddy bears in the library, kindergarten students in Mrs. Johnson's class made teddy bear bread. Student were excited to take their bear bread home to their families.

I'm Proud To Be An American

Madison students participated in an all-school writing prompt "I'm Proud To Be An American." The two top writers from each classroom were selected to read their essays and were recognized at an assembly. Students were encouraged to wear patriotic colors, red, white and blue.

Java Reading Club

Students in Mrs. Kachel's fourth grade class meet twice a week to sip their warm brews and read together. They discuss the characters, events and write reflections in their journals. Books are selected by interest from a variety of genres. Mrs. Larkin, from Java Express, will come once a month to serve hot chocolate, cider, and other warm drinks to the students while they read. It's exciting to see students want to read. They can't wait for the Java Book Club each week. What a wonderful way to develop a life long love of reading!
