James Madison (1751 - 1836)


 
James Madison
        4th President of the United States (1809-1817)

Born: March 16, 1751, Port Conway, Virginia

Nickname: "Father of the Constitution"

Education: College of New Jersey (now Princeton University, graduated 1771)

Religion: Episcopalian

Marriage: September 15, 1794, to Dolley Payne Todd (1768-1849)

Children: None

Career: Lawyer

Political Party: Democratic-Republican

Died: June 28, 1836, Montpelier, Orange County, Virginia

Buried: Montpelier, Virginia (family plot)

James Madison Elementary is named after the fourth President of the United States. Madison School  was built in 1964.  The students who attended Madison that first year chose "The Minutemen" for the school mascot. In later years it became "The Madison Mavericks."  

Madison Elementary has two Montpelier Red Maple trees planted in front of the school. They came from James Madison's Orange County, Virginia estate. Madison's student council helped plant the trees, along with Mr. Morris, a parent who donated the trees to the school.
