Fourth Grade

Reading

Knows main idea, setting, main characters, problem and solutions

Reading orally with fluency and expression

Literal (basic) comprehension

Order of events in a story (sequencing)

 

Math

Addition/subtraction facts (memorized)

Tell time on an analog clock (not digital)

Multiplication facts (0-9) (memorized)

Rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand

Reading graphs (bar and line)

Regrouping up to 4 digit numbers with addition and subtraction (borrow and carry)

Place value to hundred thousands (6 digits)

 

Language

Knows parts of speech – noun, verb, adjective, and pronoun

Subject and predicate

Punctuation

Editing

Present and past tense

Capitalization

Basic dictionary skills

 

Writing

Form manuscript (printing) letters correctly

Form cursive letters correctly

Write a complete sentence using six (6) or more words

Write a paragraph with five to eight (5-8) sentences including a topic sentence, supporting details, transition words, and a closing sentence.

Write the following paragraphs: descriptive, narrative (personal story) and expository (explaining)

Write a friendly letter

Summarize a story—beginning, middle, and end
