Reading/Language

Identify main idea and supporting details

Author's purpose

Introduce note-taking and outlining

Understand parts of printed text (glossaries, index, table of contents)

Inference (What is it?)

Summarize text of story (problem/solution, setting plot, characters)

Pronunciation key

Use and create informational graphic organizers

Be familiar with metaphors, similes, and personifications

Explain cause/effect (problem/solution)

Compare and contrast genre, characters, theme, and ideas

Writing

How to write a topic sentence and 3-4 supporting sentences

Familiarization with "Step-Up to Writing" paragraph construction

Use editing marks in DOL and editing of written work

Formulate written answers in complete sentences

Write and recognize all cursive letters

Familiar with the 4 types of writing (expository, narrative, descriptive, persuasive)

Math

Know addition/subtraction facts

Regrouping in addition/subtraction

Multiplication facts thru 10

Multiplication by single-digit multiplier

Division by single-digit divisor

Place value through millions

Understanding of basic fractions (½’s, ¼’s, ⅛’s)

Standard measurement (to the nearest ¼, ½ unit of meas.)

Area and perimeter of rectangles

Read, make and interpret simple line, bar, circle, and picture graphs

Round numbers up to ten thousand

Sort shapes by attributes

Be familiar with mean, median, and mode

Familiarity with probability
