Frances L. Jenkins
Jenkins Middle School is named in honor of Frances L. Jenkins, a long-time School District 11 educator and former member of the D-11 Board of Education.
"I love children. And I don't know why, but they liked me, too."
That's how Frances L. Jenkins summed up a career in public education that
spanned nearly 50 years. As a math teacher at Palmer and Wasson high
schools, she shared her gift for critical thinking with her students.
As a
mathematics supervisor, she was a respected colleague. As a member of the
Board of Education, she led by example, empathy and experience.
A native Coloradoan, Frances and her husband of 58 years, Delmar, raised four children - all proud products of D-11. In 1997, when she learned that School District 11's new middle school would be named in her honor, she was moved to tears. She passed away in 1999, a few months before the school named in her honor was completed and opened.
