Kids Speak Out
Is it possible for a child with a learning disability to also be gifted or talented? You bet. Children seldom come in simple, easy-to-define packages. A child who is gifted in math abilities may find it very difficult to learn to read, or might struggle with writing skills or spelling. Another child who writes easily and fluently can lose motivation in math or science, or have problems when it comes to completing homework or class projects. A child who has a vision or hearing impairment might be a gifted writer; a student who finds writing slow and painful may discover a gift in the performing arts. On April 15 there will be an event entitled “Kids Speak Out” at the Penrose House from 6:30-8:00 pm, featuring a panel of high school twice exceptional children who will share their thoughts, successes and challenges.
