Teachers First

News First on Channels 5/30 hosts Teachers First, a program to recognize and pay tribute to excellent teaching professionals in southern Colorado. Once a month from September through May, a teacher is chosen by a panel from nominations submitted to Channels 5/30. Nomination forms are available at koaa.com or the station’s office at 530 Communications Circle, 632-5030.

Award recipients receive $500 from the sponsors and a plaque and will be featured on News First on the second Wednesday of each month during newscasts.

Qualifying individuals must currently teach in a southern Colorado K-12 accredited public or private school and must not have been recognized by Teachers First previously. Nominations are accepted all year long and must include: an official nomination form, one letter from the nominator, one letter of recommendation from an individual not related to the teacher being nominated, and one letter from the school principal or administrator.

Bike Rack Information

Jenkins has a second bike rack that has been installed by the basketball courts outside of the gym.  Here are the following procedures that must be followed for students coming to school on bicycles and skateboards.  There will be no exceptions to these procedures.  The procedures have been established for your safety and welfare.

(1)       All bikes and skateboards must be stored in a bike rack area.  The school is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.  You are responsible to lock your bikes and skateboards in the rack area.

(2)       Students coming to school from Austin Bluffs Parkway must use the new East-side bike rack.  When you arrive on school grounds, walk or carry your bike or skateboard to the bike rack area.  You need to use the sidewalks on the east side and stay off of the roadways.  Again, students riding to school from Austin Bluffs Parkway are only allowed to use the new East side rack.

(3)       Students coming to school from the West side, by the tennis courts, must use the old bike rack.  When you arrive on school grounds, walk your bikes and skateboards.  Again, students who ride to school and enter school grounds by the tennis courts are only allowed to use the old West side rack.

(4)       Students are forbidden to ride bikes or skateboards on any of th roadways.   With two bike rack areas – one on the West side, by the tennis courts and one on the East-side, by the gym – there is absolutely no reason for any student to be using their bikes or skateboards on roadways, through the parking lot, or on the front sidewalks.

(5)       When school is dismissed, students must walk their bikes or skateboards off school grounds in the same direction they entered.  Those using the East-side rack must walk on sidewalks to Austin Bluffs Parkway.  Those using the West-side rack must walk to the Canyon View trail or to the Canyon View streets by the tennis courts.  No one is allowed to bring bikes or skateboards into the parking lot area or front sidewalks.

These procedures start immediately.  Jenkins is pleased to provide two bike racks to enhance the safety and welfare of our students.  Students are expected to follow the new procedures.  Thank you.

Parent Connect is Here!

 Parent Connection
Parent Connect

What is Parent Connect?  It is a web-based product that allows parents to access information on their child’s academic grades and student records.

What do I have to do to get connected?  Drop by the office to get you password and pin number.  Parents or guardians will have to show a picture ID and sign for the pin number and password.  Only parents listed as the official contact person will be allowed to pick up the pin number.  Once the pin number is provided, parents will be able to go on-line and check a plethora of information about their student. Parents can check school news, classroom news, school demographics, schedules, transcripts, GPA, graduation requirements, testing information and results, behavior reports and health records, as well as their child's assignments, marks, and attendance.

Need more information? 328-5310

Parent Connection by Phone

The student information phone system is available to parents by calling 520-2300.  The new system provides up-to-date information on student attendance, assignments for secondary students, grades, schedules, and standards and benchmarks for elementary students, school news and classroom news. This information is an abbreviated version of what is available through Parent Connection on the Internet.  To access this new system, parents will use the same PIN and password assigned for access to Parent Connection on the Internet (Call Jenkins main office 328-5300 for information regarding PIN and password information).

The information provided is real-time data posted in the Zangle Student Information System by teachers and schools.  Callers will use their phone keypads or speak their choices using the speech recognition software.  While calling into the system, users will receive detailed information on how to easily navigate through the menu choices.

User Tips

  • The touchtone system ensures the system receives all responses clearly.

  • Callers using the speech recognition feature should avoid speaker phones and noisy locations as the system may pick up the background noise as responses.

  • The system will also allow callers to skip through areas to get to the information they desire quickly.

  • When using the touchpad, callers can press the star key to repeat a recording, the one key to skip to the next item and the pound key to return to the student menu.

  • Speech Recognition callers can say Student Menu at any time to return to the Student Menu.
