Course Number: MA.INALGE5
Course Name:
 Integrated Algebra/Geometry 5
Prerequisite: MA.INALGE5, MA.INALGE6
Course Description:  Integrated Algebra/Geometry 5 & 6 building on the mathematical topics and problem solving methods introduced in Integrated Algebra/Geometry 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. This course is also organized around the concept of “function” and techniques of mathematical analysis to identify patterns and to create and use functions that model real-world data. This course reinforces students’ knowledge of linear functions and develops mastery of exponential and quadratic functions. This course helps students continue to develop their ability to explore and solve mathematical problems, think critically, work cooperatively, and communicate ideas clearly. Students also broaden their knowledge of and reinforce their skills in number sense and computation, algebra and problem solving, probability and statistics, geometry and measurement, all of which provides a strong foundation for topics in pre-calculus courses. The course has a particular emphasis on techniques of algebra manipulation including solving equations, inequalities and systems, laws or exponents, and factoring. The course encourages and supports different learning styles by using visual and hands-on approaches that could include computer and graphing calculator technologies, exploratory activities, projects, and group work. This course is explicitly aligned to the American College Testing (ACT) Program Mathematics Standards. (A scientific calculator is required; a graphing calculator is recommended.
Course Length: 2 semesters
Period Length: 1
Grade Level:  9-12 grade(s)
