BAAC |
The
Building Advisory and Accountability Committee and the Holmes PTSA work
together to improve the Holmes community. BAAC
is an advisory board to
the principal, comprised of parents, community members, school staff and
administrators. The primary activity of the BAAC is assisting in the
development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and monitoring progress
on the plan throughout the school year. The committee also reviews
programs, curricula, and supportive budgets and policies that affect
student achievement, attendance, and school safety. Subcommittees
involve parents working with school staff in specific areas: Budgets;
Communications; Attendance, Discipline and Safety; and Surveys. |

Volunteers |
Parent involvement at Holmes is part of what makes our school special.
This chair maintains the Volunteer Registration Forms, enters the
volunteer information into the District’s system, logs volunteer hours,
and corresponds with our volunteer base (primarily by email) in order to
provide volunteers for school events and programs. Volunteers at Holmes
are utilized in areas including, but not limited to, student folder
stuffing, Back to School Night, Agenda/Reader/PE Uniform sales, magazine
sales, Open House, Vision and Hearing and Screening, Book Fair, Career
Day, Ellis Island, Super Hawk Day, yearbook sales, dance bracelet sales,
classroom help, tutoring, SPED literacy help, staff appreciation,
hospitality, Reflections and Legislative Advocacy. |

Directory |
At
the beginning of the school year, this committee prepares/distributes a
Directory Information Form. The forms and payment are collected and then
the information is compiled into our Holmes Student Directory. The chair
prepares a print-ready document and works with the printer to complete
the finished product. The committee prepares the copies of the directory
for distribution. |

Reflections |
Our
students are eligible to participate in the National PTA Reflections
Program. This committee presents the program to staff/faculty,
advertises the program to the students, and supplies the rules and
regulations forms. Entries are collected submitted to a panel for
judging. Winning entries are prepared for advancement and the committee
plans a celebration pizza party. The chair communicates the results and
thanks the judges for their participation. |

Book Fair |
Holmes holds a fall book fair. This committee helps
with set-up, sales, and take down of the book fair. |
|
Membership |
PTSA holds a membership drive at the beginning of the school year and
again in January. The chair prepares the membership envelopes and flyers
that go into the student First Day Folders. The committee publicizes
PTSA and its benefits and may help with the data entry of member
information into the PTA database. The chair submits a report to the
state PTA (due Nov. 1 and Feb.1) The chair prints the membership cards
and handles their distribution. |

Student Enrichment |
This committee seeks volunteers to teach a variety of classes before and
after school. This committee may conduct a survey of student interests
to determine what classes to offer. |
|
Ways & Means |
This committee organizes fundraising activities if needed, but primarily
seeks donations from community businesses. We use these donations as
prizes, gifts, and incentives. |
|
Box Tops |
PTSA raises money for its budget through the collection of Box Tops for
Education. This committee promotes contests among classes/cores/grade
levels and oversees the collection process. |
|
Bingo |
This committee organizes quarterly Bingo nights – a primary fundraiser
for PTSA. Bingo is also provided as a community building event for
Holmes. A student group generally handles concessions. This committee
helps sell bingo cards and volunteers at Bingo Night. (Due to state
regulations, some Bingo volunteer positions require PTSA membership.) |

Hospitality |
This committee provides refreshments for parents and visitors to the
school. The primary events for parents are: Back to School Night, Open
House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Hawk Night, 8th Grade Celebration,
and any parent forums or enrichment programs. Events for visitors may
include Career Day and visiting school teams. |

Staff Appreciation |
This chair and committee coordinates efforts to show Holmes staff and
faculty the appreciation of our parents/guardians and students. This involves
treat days, lunches, birthday treats, etc…This committee utilizes parent
volunteers and community members to help with the events. |
|
Communication |
This committee/chair
compiles information about the various PTSA committees and events and
creates a monthly newsletter page(s) that is put on the Holmes website.
This chair/committee may also work on periodic updates to the website. |
|
Health & Safety |
This chair coordinates volunteers to conduct the District’s Vision and
Hearing Screening. Volunteers are trained by the District, who also
sends a team with equipment to perform the screenings. Screenings are
held in the spring and the date is set by the District. (Only 6th and
8th graders are screened.) The chair also provides refreshments for the
volunteers (cost reimbursed by PTSA). |

Legislative |
The
legislative chair is responsible for keeping the Holmes community
informed about legislation which impacts Colorado and organizes any
appropriate action. The chair may attend the annual Colorado Legislative
Conference. |
|
Ellis Island |
This committee is responsible for organizing the volunteers for this
immigration simulation provided to the 8th grade students. Ellis Island
is a day long event that focuses on the immigrant experience of those who
came to America and had to pass through the checkpoints at Ellis Island. |
|
Super Hawk Day |
This is a full-day event for all students combines academics with fun
and games. The Hawk Day committee organizes the volunteers to help
staff/faculty man the athletic and academic events. The chair works with
the administration to prepare informational folders for each volunteer,
and provides direction and refreshments for volunteers. The chair
arranges volunteers for the school BBQ luncheon held during Super Hawk
Day. This committee also handles the sale of candy and water during the
day. |
