Gifted and Talented Department

 Vision
 
All gifted students will accomplish challenging post-secondary workforce goals and become productive, creative citizens capable of succeeding in their area of strength.
 

Mission

Ensure gifted student growth and achievement through systems of support, programming, and advocacy.

 

Gifted and Talented Education is committed to providing challenging learning experiences for all learnersthat build on individual strengths and optimize academic potential. We support and encourage appropriate programming for highly able students. Our goal is to collaborate with different content areas (e.g., mathematics, language arts) and departments such as ELL and Special Education to ensure all of our populations in gifted education are appropriately served.

STATE OF COLORADO GIFTED & TALENTED DEFINITION

"Gifted and Talented Children" means those students whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs. "Gifted and Talented Children" include those with disabilities, (i.e. Twice Exceptional), and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all   socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Gifted students are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior by virtue of any or a combination of         these areas of giftedness:

  • General or specific intellectual ability
  • Specific academic aptitude
  • Creative or productive thinking
  • Leadership abilities
  • Visual or performing arts
  • Musical, dance, or psychomotor abilities
