Stage II water Conservation Activities and Results 2003

 Highlights of D-11 Water Conservation Program:

 

·         Compliance with city water conservation program (AWMPs).

·         Prioritized landscape maintenance and water use on mission essential athletic and physical education fields and restricted water use on ornamental.

·         Continuous patrolling by D11 staff, tested automatic watering systems weekly for proper working condition.

·         Irrigation timers set properly.

·         Prompt repair or adjustment to sprinkler heads (>13,000 heads).

·         Operate D-11 citizens’ irrigation complaints “hot line” 477-6004.

·         Replaced older automatic clocks with newer clocks (water budgeting features, multiple start times, and rain shutoff connections) at three locations.

·         Tested rain sensors district wide.

·         Completely restricted bus (largest fleet in county) and vehicle washing.

·         Limited use of other non-irrigation water use as much as possible such as use of power washing equipment except in cases where health or public safety was a concern.

·         Conversion of D11 stadium to artificial turf – 4 million gallons annual water savings.

·         Discontinued watering at locations and in areas where turf grass has died.

·         Xeriscape demonstration garden planted in the courtyard at Mitchell HS.

 Water Usage Statistics:

 ·         2001 total water usage (April – October) - 18,709,331 CF

·         2002 total water usage (April – October) - 14,308,332 CF (24% reduction from 2001)

·         2003 target water usage (April – October) - 13,844,905 CF (26% reduction from 2001)

 ·         2003 actual usage through October 11,189,274 CF – 40% reduction since 2001

·         2003 target usage through October 13,844,904 CF – 21% under 2003 target

·         2001 actual usage through October 18,709,331 CF
