Colorado Springs School District 11
"No" Meal Charge Policy

Effective: August 1, 2001

ALL Schools:  Meal charges are NOT allowed.

Elementary Students who do not have enough money on their account for a meal will have their meal ID Card "pulled" at the cafeteria before they arrive for breakfast or lunch. Students whose meal ID is not in the "normal" place (e.g. card rack, classroom ticket pack, etc.) will know that there is an issue and he/she will go see the Kitchen Manager for assistance...

bulletStudents who work in the kitchen are provided a meal at no cost. Students who forget their meal money may work in the kitchen. Or,
bulletSchools or local school organizations (e.g. PTA, student clubs, Student Activity accounts, etc.) may purchase a prepaid meal ticket that would be provided to students on the day that they forget their money.
bulletStudents who forget their money may be provided an Alternate Meal (peanut butter or sun-butter sandwich, fruit, vegetable, and milk) on a case by case basis.
bulletAdults are not allowed to charge meals or A la Carte purchases.

Zero-Balance Prevention:

Food & Nutrition Services will call households using our "auto-call system" to let parents know that a student's balance is low.

Parents can track this themselves online and sign up for email notifications for free by following the links to the Official Payments web site at http://www.d11.org/fns/payonline.htm.

If behavior patterns develop with students who consistently do not have money for meals, the Kitchen Manager will discuss this problem with the principal, counselor, student, or parent to determine the best solution for the student.
