Food Safety in D11 Food & Nutrition Services

In 2006, there were 228 "reported" cases of Foodborne Enteric Illnesses in El Paso County!  Many more went unreported!

We're doing something in D11 Schools to prevent your child from getting "food poisoning" from eating at school.

It is implied in the "team vision" of our department that "We serve EVERY child, EVERY day"... SAFELY.
We achieve this through our HACCP program in Food & Nutrition Services.

The ServSafe Plan in Colorado Springs School District 11

Purpose:

To have highly successful "Food Safety Systems" in Colorado Springs School District 11.

Concept:

bullet Implement the National Restaurant Association’s “ServSafe certification program where each school in District 11 will have at least one employee certified in food safety through this excellent program.

The Plan - ServSafe Food Safety

In 2006, there were 228 reported cases of Foodborne Enteric Illnesses in El Paso County and many more went unreported.  The potential for an outbreak of a foodborne illness in School District 11 is very real, considering over 3,000,000 meals are served annually by over 250 different “food handlers.”

The National Restaurant Association’s “Servsafe food safety certification program is widely recognized as the best food safety program in the industry.

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI.)

Engaged participants have greater comprehension and have better application of food safety practices.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to food safety in School District 11 Food & Nutrition Services, we have developed and implemented the ServSafe Food Protection Training System in our school district Food and Nutrition Services program.
