Process

In upholding these values as integral to our purpose as a District, we also recognize that achieving them is an ongoing process that requires special focus and effort. The Equal Opportunity Programs & Ombudservices, designed to be fully consistent with all federal and state mandates, are also fully integrated into the District's Strategic Plan, including the objectives of creating physically and emotionally safe schools, fostering equity and using human resources wisely. The wide-ranging programs administered by the Equal Opportunity Office apply to or are available to every member of the District 11 community. They are positive, pro-active and oriented toward problem-solving and resolution.

Informational Programs and
Complaint Resolution

Our office develops and offers a wide variety of programs and services to educate students, staff, families and the community concerning such topics as racial harassment and ethnic intimidation, sexual harassment, conflict management training, diversity awareness, services for students with special needs, and related issues. We help address problems that arise through mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and offer ombudservices. We are also responsible for investigating
discrimination complaints
.
 

Ombudsman

(om - budz - man)
an impartial, neutral advocate for fair practices who helps identify and evaluate options for positive action.

To assure nondiscrimination and equal opportunity in relation to District programs and services, the office of Equal Opportunity Programs & Ombudservices monitors and coordinates compliance with numerous federal and state regulations, including:

    Titles VI and VII of the CIvil Right Act of 1964 (as amended),

    The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967,

    Title IX Education Amendments of 1972,

    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973,

    The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978,

    The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990,

    and Colorado Revised Statutes,
