Our School Wide Goals

Where we Are: Where we are Going: What to Expect

Goal One:

Thomas Edison is to have at least 100% of all students who attended 3"’ to 5th grade at Thomas Edison, scoring at the proficient or advanced levels of the CSAP by the end of grade.

Goal Two:

Thomas Edison is to show significant academic growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Significant is defined by a RIT increase of 5 points or greater.

Current Effectiveness

Based on the data from the C.S.A.P., Thomas Edison has made strong progress toward reaching our goals. Our student body has shown growth for the past 3 years. We have increased our overall C.S.A.P scores by 14.67%. Our D.A.L.T. scores have shown a 5 point or greater increase in all content areas. We are also implementing the following strategies to further enhance our students learning and achievement.

Specific strategies in place which will allow us to reach our goals:

Using current Title I monies and with new instructional leadership in place, the following programs promoting higher student achievement are being initiated. A K-5 building leadership team is spearheading new effective programs offering extended learning opportunities for both students and staff.

· K-5 literacy program is now in place, strengthening skills in an ongoing standards based program. This protects the literacy block, a 90-minute uninterrupted period during the day.

· The Multi-Sensory Phonemic Awareness Training, which Edison’s staff committed to take during the 2000-2001 year, pinpoints phonetic basics leading to increased decoding skills and greater reading comprehension.

· The newly adopted Mathematics curriculum is a spiraling curriculum. This program builds on the six basic Colorado Model Content Standards in such a way as to allow a student to reach proficiency or mastery of all standards by the end of their elementary career.

· Title monies have assisted in the purchase and staff training of these standards-aligned programs and have provided a foundation to enable future continuing student successes.

· To enable continued progress toward our goal, 100% proficiency on CSAP tests, it is necessary that we receive further funds to continue a school-wide Title I Program under an Ed-Flex waiver.
