Mission Statement

The mission of the Thomas Edison Elementary School Library is to ensure that our students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and to encourage them to become independent lifelong learners.  The librarian understands and undertakes the responsibilities so that our staff and students can achieve appropriate teaching and learning outcomes to become competent and confident readers and independent, efficient, and effectives users of ideas and information.

 

Goals

The goals of our media program are to develop a community of learners that is centered on the student and sustained by a creative library media program. These goals are as follows:

·     To provide intellectual access to information through learning activities that are integrated into the curriculum.

·     To provide help to all students so they may achieve information literacy.

·     To provide physical access to information through varied learning resources.

·     To provide learning experiences that encourages students to become discerning patrons and accomplished creators of information.

·     To provide leadership, collaboration, and assistance to teachers.

·     To provide resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning.

·     To provide a program that functions as the information center of the school.

·     To provide resources and activities for learning that represent diversity.

·     To provide resources and activities that support the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are a precondition to an effective and responsible democratic citizen.
