Remember, the PDSA improvement cycle needs to be based on the review of the data.

Annual Goal:

70% of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will score Proficient or Advanced for the 2008-09 school year as measured by 2009 CSAP. 70% of students in grades 1-5 will score at grade level or above on the end of the year MAPS test.; 70% of kindergarten students will score at benchmark on spring DIBELS benchmark.  .

PLAN

The PDSA improvement cycle needs to be based on review of data.                                                                                                                           Learning Standards

Determine the learning standard(s) and/or essential skill(s) that need(s) improvement which address the target group(s) and/or learning gap(s).

Determine performance assessment measures.                                                                                                                                                           Essential Skills

Smart Goal:  All students K-5 will show progress toward meeting the end of the year 70% goal of P or A on CSAP (3-5) or (MAP 1-5).as measured by DIBELS progress monitoring and  end of unit MMMH assessments,    Improved comprehension through the use of small group direct instruction and graphic organizers will be the target area.

Teacher implementation will be monitored with the use of weekly principal walk throughs focusing on small group (5-6 students) instruction, the use of graphic organizers, and by charting asessment administration.

Tier I- All students will receive daily a 90 minute reading block following readers’ workshop format which will include guided reading instruction in small flexible differentiated groups of 5-6 students. Reading instruction will be aligned with the school adopted McMillan McGraw Hill reading series and will also include shared reading, teacher read aloud, vocabulary instruction, and phonic/word instruction.  Graphic organizers will be used to increase students’ comprehension. Success Maker and Study Island computer programs will be used to strengthen and support reading skills.

Tier II- Students will be grouped in flexible skill based 30-45 minute intervention/tutoring groups during their reading block to receive additional direct reading instruction following the McMillan McGraw Hill Triumphs intervention series, Orton Gillingham strategies, and Reading Recovery strategies.  Success Maker will also be used by Tier II students.  ELL students will receive 30-45 minute intervention instruction during the reading block from our ELL teacher.

Tier III-Additional small group skill based instruction in addition to the 90 minute reading block.  ELL small group instruction will also be provided in addition to the 90 minute reading block.

GT- Differentiated cluster classroom instruction will occur one day per week push in or pullout instruction with gifted resource teacher.
