World History 1450 to Present: Enlightenment & Revolutions

Overview
View the Video Introduction. (1:44) Scholars during the Enlightenment, or Age of Reason, said that humans have an important advantage over animals because of their ability to reason. Writers, scientists and other scholars sought to discredit the superstitions of the past as they increased understanding of mathematics, science, and democracy. In this unit, you will be introduced to revolutionary thinkers of the Enlightenment. You will see how a change in the beliefs of a society can sometimes result in violence and revolution.
