Grade 7, March Unit (@ 10 days)

Overview                                                                              
During the last two weeks of quarter 3, 7th graders will be able to investigate probability by creating a fair game that uses dice, cards, or spinners to play the game.  Pay close attention to the essential Questions. You may be asked to answer the questions at the end of this unit.  The next two weeks of March are set aside for CSAP testing.  Students will have an opportunity to show what they know on the Colorado State Assessment.

Essential Questions - most important “big picture” questions students should be able to answer after completing learning activities.

  • How would you represent the probability of a simple event?

  • What predictions can you make based on theoretical probability?

  • What strategies would you use to determine the number of possible outcomes of a simple event?

Standard 3:  (Probability and Statistics) Students use data collection and analysis, statistics, and probability in problem-solving situations and communicate the reasoning and processes used in solving these problems.
3.6 Determine probability of simple independent events (tossing coins/rolling number cubes)
3.6c Make predictions based on theoretical probability
3.7a Determine number of outcomes for a given event using tree diagrams or organized lists
