Enduring Understandings are important ideas that
students should carry with them years beyond the instruction received this
year.
Essential Questions are the most important “big picture”
questions students should be able to answer after completing learning
activities.
-
How can you prove
that a number is greater than, less than, or equal to another number?
Does your answer work with facts as well?
-
How would you
explain even and odd numbers to your little brother or sister?
-
Can you tell someone
else what time you go to bed (or other daily event) in two different
ways?
-
How can you tell
whether to add or subtract in a word problem that doesn’t come right out
and tell you?

Parents
You can support your second grader’s math understanding by
doing simple activities together. Pointing out the time of regular
home events, telling addition/subtraction stories to 10, comparing
numbers greater than, less than, and equal to, and looking at number
patterns with a missing number can give your child confidence in
math class at school.
