Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can semesters 1 and 2 of a course be taken concurrently?
A. Yes, if a students fails a semester, that credit will need to be made up in order to graduate. However,  students are encouraged to stay on track for graduation, by taking advantage of tutoring or other supports offered at their school so they can progress through the sequence of courses as designed.

Q. What are IBMYP Courses?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a comprehensive and rigorous two-year curriculum, leading to examinations for students aged between sixteen and nineteen. Based on the pattern of no single country, it is a deliberate compromise between the specialization required in some national systems and the breadth preferred in others. The general objectives of the IB are to provide students with a balanced education; to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility; and to promote international understanding through a shared academic experience. In the more than twenty-five years since its founding, the IB Diploma has become a symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise. The student who satisfies its demands demonstrates a strong commitment to learning, both in terms of the mastery of subject content and in the development of skills and discipline necessary for success in a competitive world. College and universities are well served by encouraging the enrollment of these able young scholars.

William J. Palmer High School offers two programs for students interested in the IB Program. The first of these is the Middle Years Program (MYP)Designed for students in grades 6-10, the MYP is jointly delivered by Palmer and North Middle School. The Diploma Program for high school juniors and seniors offers a rigorous pre-university curriculum delivered by over 40 staff and faculty in nine content areas, offering as many as 40 separate courses. An active Parent Advisory Board also supports the efforts of North and Palmer students and staff. For more information about the different IB programs visit : http://www.ibo.org/, or the Palmer website at: http://www.cssd11.k12.co.us/palmer/. Palmer High School, offers the IB curriculum. 328-5075, IB Middle Years Program (IBMYP)  328-5078, IB Diploma Program.
