Grade  9 - 12, Basketball

Course Number: PE.BSKTBL3

Overview

In 1887, a simple game involving the use of peach baskets and a soccer ball was designed to provide an “athletic distraction” for a rowdy class through a brutal New England winter.  This simple distraction evolved into a popular recreational and competitive sport as well as a multi-million dollar spectator pastime.  To play and understand the game of basketball, a high degree of skill and knowledge are required.  In Colorado Springs School District 11 Physical Education classes you will be able to practice previously learned skills and learn advanced skills.  Rules, terms, and concepts of the game of basketball are emphasized as well as strategy in team offense and defense.  You will also be encouraged to use your powers of observation, analysis, and judgment in playing the game of basketball while strengthening your self-confidence and respect for your own abilities, and those of others.
