2007 Saturday Workshops at University of Colorado at Boulder

Dear Colorado Music Educator:

The Music Education Faculty at CU-Boulder is pleased to sponsor the third in a series of three Saturday seminars for music educators.  On Saturday, April 21, Dr. Gary McPherson (Endowed Professor of Music Education at the University of Illinois ), will lead a seminar on the topic "Psychological and Sociological Factors that Impact Musical Development."  Dr. McPherson is the editor of and a  major contributor to the recently published book  The child as musician: A handbook of musical development (Oxford University Press).  He also just completed his term as President of the International Society for Music Education.  He has lectured throughout the world on topics related to musical development, motivation, skill acquisition, and music performance assessment.  His seminar presentation, which will utilize a multimedia format to promote extensive discussion, is geared to music educators working at all instructional levels.

Teachers may opt to attend this seminar for licensure renewal credit at no charge.  Specific questions about the seminar and/or the licensure option  should be directed to me (James.Austin@colorado.edu).

Anyone planning to attend the first seminar should send an RSVP email to my graduate assistant (Caleb.Starbuck@colorado.edu) by Wednesday, April 18.  That information will allow us to prepare an appropriate number of seminar packets, certificates, and refreshments.

* Attendees should park in the Euclid Parking Structure (18th & Euclid); the rate is $2 for the day.  A campus map may be found at:

      www.colorado.edu/campusmap/

* The seminar will take place in room E160 in the Imig Music Building (southeast corner of the building).

* Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.; the seminar session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m.
