Bemis Elementary Talented in Art Program

The purpose of the Bemis Elementary Talented in Art Program, coordinated by District 11 Gifted and Talented Department and the Fine Arts Department of Instruction, is to challenge and accelerate advanced art students in grades 3-5. Bemis art teachers develop curriculum that is unique and aligns with higher level art standards. Effort is made to ensure that there is no duplication in the curriculum offered at the home school and Bemis. Teachers at Bemis will also provide museum experiences for the students enrolled in this program.

1. Above is a check list to guide you in identifying talented students in art. (Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders) Please use this tool to make recommendations for this talented in art program.

2. Once you have identified the students, please provide them with a packet that we will send you through the PONY. If you need extra packets, please contact the GT office or my office or print them from of the Fine Arts Website. http://www.d11.org/doi/arts These items are located under the Events tab entitled “
Bemis Elementary Talented in Art Program”. The deadline for issuing the packets to students is January 31, 2008.

3. We have included a “Refusal Form” in the packet to try to collect some data from parents that decide not to take advantage of this program. As an incentive, we will give a pack of colored pencils to each student that returns a refusal form. Once you send the refusal forms to my office, I will send you the colored pencils to issue to your students.

Please contact me (520-2027) or Gary Marx (520-2463) if you have any questions or suggestions?
